I'm lucky - H
You know, I'm lucky in that there are days when I go to work, and doing so brightens my day. I've been dragging my feet all week, well...pretty much since spring break was over. I'm not motivated to do anything. I'm just counting down the days until the end of the year (26 days, 1 period, and 1 parent meeting). Though I dread coming to work, sometimes there are moments that pick me up. For example, I took a day off earlier this week, and when I came back, there were a handful of my kids that asked where I was. I guess it's only natural to wonder where your teacher is when she is unexpectedly gone, but it meant a lot to me. I've also had kids this year that just want to tell me about some of the things going on in their lives. One student saw an exhibit up in the city where they saw actual human parts as part of an anatomy exhibit. Another wanted to share/vent with me about his rained out field trip. It's nice that they feel like they can do that with me. I enjoy that a lot.
I think it's these kinds of experiences that draw some into the teaching profession, but I haven't encountered them as much as I would like. It's also that I've become less and less uptight as a teacher over the years as well, I think, that makes my students more and more comfortable with me. I'm really glad about that. I've been enjoying my students quite a lot this year, but geez, teaching is exhausting, and I'm ready for some rest.
