"C'est la vie" - H
Do you normally say this in acceptance of circumstances that are out of your control or in defeat and resignation? For me it's either the latter if I'm applying it to myself, or when I'm saying it to someone else, I really mean, "Deal with it." Today, however, I'm accepting the circumstances in my life that I cannot control and simply accepting that nothing is happening according to my plans. Maybe the lesson to learn here is that I'm not ultimately in control in the first place, so I don't need to expend all this energy pretending that I am. The second take away would be that it's much less stressful to accept this than to try everything I can to make things happen as close to my original plans as possible...well, there's no way I can do that in this case anyway.
What am I talking about? Our house remodel. About 2-3 months ago, I'd written in my planner that my desired move-in date was April 26. Well, it's now May 12, and we haven't even started. In fact, we don't even have a contractor yet. We're in the process of getting bids, but it takes everyone forever to get back to you...at least those we've talked to so far. I've accepted it though, and I actually feel good b/c I think as time passes, I'm becoming more educated about building materials, the process, vendors, etc., and I think we're meeting more and more people that we feel comfortable working with. We shall see how it all shakes out.
