Baby lately - H

Let's see, what's Baby J been up to lately. Well...I guess the biggest thing is that she's on the verge of walking by herself. I think she can do it already b/c she can walk holding only one of my hands relatively lightly, but I think it's a confidence thing. It's funny, but I think sometimes when she tries something and unexpectedly "fails" she has this look on her face that expresses embarrassment but the negative, "I feel ashamed" version of it if that makes sense. I don't know if that's what she's actually thinking or feeling, but that's what her face says to me.

side note: I've taken her to the play area at the mall twice now, and I've realized just how mean kids can be. On one occasion I saw a kid express hatred for another who was trying to play with him but that he wasn't interested in playing with. That same kid cringed and retreated when Baby J came by the toy structure he was playing on and gave a look of dislike and disapproval. Neither Baby nor this other kid did anything to warrant this negativity. I was just taken aback. This last time, I saw a kid giving her looks as if she were strange and weird b/c she was just patting the frog and yelling, "Dah!" while pointing at things. I don't know if this conveys just the "evil" that I saw in the kids. Being a teacher I know how kids can be mean to each other, but I guess I didn't know that it could start at such a young age. The kids were probably 3 or 4 years old. It broke my heart to know that these mean things were directed at Baby J although she was oblivious to them. It breaks my heart to think that she will have to experience such evil eventually. She is to me such a sweet and beautiful person, so innocent and so vulnerable that it pains me to think that she will likely sustain injury to her precious heart and at such a tender age.

The following are some of the things that Baby is doing lately that delight and at the same time fascinate me. It's a bit of gushing from a proud mommy.

She got a balloon from TJ's the other day. When you check out with your groceries, I guess you can get a balloon if you have a kid. Well, now Baby J recognized balloons, and a bunch of people had them at the play area at the mall the other day. So for the first 10 minutes she kept pointing at the balloons. I don't know if it's that she likes to have them as much as she enjoys being able to identify it.

She loves the vacuum. She will crawl over to where we store it, point at it and say, "Dat!" We'll tell her it's the vacuum and make a sound, "Errrrrrrrr," that the vacuum makes. Sometimes she repeats that sounds.

Sometimes when I read Moo, Baa, La La La to her, she repeats "moo" and "lalala". When I get to the "No, No..." part she shakes her head. Hehehe. I think that's so cute.
