Oh, to be carefree - H

I have to get used to the fact that resuming any of my pre-pregnancy activities, like snowboarding, working-out, running errands, while entirely possible to resume, will most likely look different now than it did before. There's another person that I have to look out for and consider when planning anything and everything. While I often yearn for a moment when I can do things the way I used to do them before, completely carefree and at a moment's notice, I think I have now come to a place where I realize and accept that I need to make adjustments and/or put a few things on hold for now. Taking long trips is one of them.

We'd decided that we are no longer driving down to so-Cal. The last time was miserable with a cranky baby that decided 2 hours into what became a 9 hour drive, that she no longer wanted to be in the car seat. We thought that taking a 3-4 hour car trip might be okay, especially now that she's older, but after a weekend where neither she nor E and I got much sleep, 4 hours in the car was just as bad as 9. It's a lose-lose situation as far as guilty feelings are concerned too. You feel guilty that you're leaving your crying baby in the car seat (especially when she cries so hard that she vomits), but when you take her out, you feel guilty that you're breaking the law, putting your baby in danger, and driving with your baby loose in the car. It's either that or spend an hour or two at a rest area while she gets to play and stretch her legs. 10 minutes of playing will only buy us 2 minutes of peace in the car. We were definitely glad when we finally arrived at home.

That being said, it was good to get back up on the mountain. To glide down the mountain is to experience tranquility, and to ride up on the lift with my bestest friend (E), is the same. The cool, crisp mountain air brushing your face, and in such a beautiful environment...sigh...it was sweet. It was sweet just to be on the mountain together...carefree.
