I planted a white calla plant in our backyard that Soph gave me. With all the rains recently, it's blooming. I see 3 buds already. White callas must be much hardier than the orange ones I had. I also planted some lemon seeds from Soph's tree. I have 3 little treelings growing in a little baggie on my dining table. I was trying to grow an avocado plant from seed, but that one's not working. Maybe I need to stop watching it.
Growing plants requires a lot of patience, which is not a virtue I possess. When I first planted the lemon seeds, I waited a few days and then checked daily for any roots. In my frustration I eventually gave up and left them for dead. Then about a week later, roots! and a few days after that, little green leaves were slowly unfurling as the shoots were emerging from the soil.
After first seeing the calla bud, I started checking on that daily too to see if it was open yet. These flowers take a long time to fully bloom, so I get really frustrated with them too. It gets to the point sometimes where I try to help the flower along by loosening the closed petals hoping that'll speed the process. Maybe the petals are stuck, just a bit too much friction. In the end there really is nothing I can do. I just have to wait. I don't like to wait.
That seems to be a theme in my life lately...waiting.

I laughed out loud when I read that you sometimes like to help the flowers bloom faster by unfurling their petals. patience seems to be a theme lately. happy to hear that things are growing at your home!
