THAT was hilarious! - H

So, J wanted to read this R. Scarry picture book about cars. It's a board book of illustrations of different types of vehicles with all his little characters driving or riding in them. There's a picture of a school bus with a driver and passengers. J points to one of the characters riding at the back of the bus that has a long snout sticking straight out to ask what it is.

H: That's an elephant.
E: I think that's an ant-eater.
(I quickly realize that E's right and correct myself.)
H: Nevermind, that's an ant-eater.
J: Ant-peater.

We dwell on the page for a while. We explain that the ant-eater eats ants, the little bugs that she sees outside, that he thinks they're yummy, but we think they're yucky, for fear that she may try to eat them someday when we're not looking.

The book isn't very long, and J wants to read it again. We get to the school bus page again, and she sees the ant-eater again.

J: That's an elephant. Nevermind, that's a penis.

We couldn't contain ourselves. Where did THAT come from? We both had to put our heads down and laugh, making futile attempts to try to hold it in as much as we could b/c J is starting to become sensitive about when we talk about her and when she feels that we or others are laughing at her. I felt bad, but THAT was hilarious!
