A comforting thought - H
E has made this comment before, but it made me think a little today. He just noted that J is so happy, and in general she is. She has a carefree, child-like contentedness about her. Today, it made me think that that is probably the biggest complement she could pay us as her parents - simply to be happy. It makes me feel like we're meeting her needs, though we often have to guess what they are, and nurturing her in a way that is appropriate for her unique personality and temperament. It made me happy to know that she is happy, especially when motherhood/parenthood can be fraught with insecurity and questions about whether we're doing the right thing, whether we're handling a given situation in the right way, whether we're handling J the right way, etc. We make so many decisions for her and we may not know how we did as parents until much later. The fact that she's happy though, makes me think that we're on the right track - a comforting thought.
