J's party - H
I'm completely wiped out. It's a lot of things, but hosting J's 2nd bday BBQ party yesterday definitely did me in. So, I have to say I was proud of the menu with each dish made with high quality, local and/or organic ingredients, but I don't know what I was thinking when I planned to cook everything for a party with a final guest count of about 30 people including kids. I cooked for about 6 hours straight and still didn't finish everything I had planned. It was mostly details like cooking the mushrooms and BACON for the burgers (That would have been a crowd pleaser, no doubt!), borrowing a large cooler to chill drinks, stuff like that. In the end I think most enjoyed themselves, kids included, and especially J. We think we might have birthed an extrovert...or maybe she's just at an age where she likes attention. We hardly saw her the entire party, so I don't really know what she was doing most of the time.
Some of the highlights of the party for me.
- The kids enjoyed J's toys and had fun. I had this tent and tunnel town that I bought for J a while back and finally pulled out. One of the tents is made to be a ball pit. All the kids enjoyed that, old and young. That made me happy.
- A lot of people enjoyed the chicken salad. It was a marinated, grilled chicken over butter lettuce with diced mango and pineapple, and a lemon ginger vinaigrette, recipe courtesy of Emeril. It was the first time I'd tried the recipe so I was taking a chance. It was a hit! That made me happy!
- S asked J what her favorite part of the party was. She said when everyone sang "Happy Birthday."
- The first thing J said after she blew out the candles was, "I get presents!"
- We could tell that J was content after the party b/c when we put her down for bed, she was awake but stayed in bed singing. (She usually climbs out, looks for us and throws a tantrum about sleeping.) That made me happy!
- In the end, I'd call the party a success. I think most enjoyed themselves. That made me happy!
Now, time to host our last guest for the month. Then the next big thing to tackle is transitioning J to going to daycare for a few hours a week and then the baby will be here. WOW! There are some big changes about to happen. I didn't realize it until I just wrote it down.
