So, the ballot measure that our school district put on the ballot passed (Probably. There are still some outstanding ballots that need to be counted.), but for some reason, the same measure for the elementary schools didn't pass. I wonder if we'll see the effects of that in the future when those students come to high school. Will they be less prepared?

It's such a relief that we don't have to look ahead to another year of program and staff cuts. It would have been the fourth year in a row for our district. I just heard a short blurb on the news from the mayor of SF last night. None of the measures that he supported for the city of SF passed. I guess they were depending on those for funding, and he announced that it means layoffs, combining departments, trimming down to account for their deficit. In some sense I guess it can be positive in that they can get rid of unnecessary or redundant jobs, but it really can't be an easy task to take a job away from someone, especially people who don't make much as it is and who are trying to support their families...and in the Bay area no less.

I talked to my photo instructor earlier this week. I just asked about photo internships or any opportunity for me to learn about the photo industry, to get my feet wet. There isn't that much out there. There are more in Chicago, and tons more in New York, at least when you glance at Craig's list. Anyway, I'm not set on a definite photo career path. It may not amount to much more than a life-long hobby, but teaching is a possibility. I like both teaching and photography, so why not meld the two? However, I was disappointed to find out that many photo programs have already gotten rid of wet dark rooms and are solely teaching digital photography and digital processing i.e. photoshop or the like. My instructor said that he wouldn't be surprised if some films started coming off the market in the next 5 years because there's less demand. (...probably the stuff that professionals or artists use, not the ones you find in a supermarket.) Digital technology is getting to be just as good as film photography, even when it comes to black and white, and in a lot of ways it's just a lot easier. You don't have to use chemicals, for example. (sigh) Just when I was beginning to fall in love with the darkroom process. Boo.
