Itchy, itchy - H
I'm am ITCHing to ride my board on some snowy white slopes. Our plans for Whistler are coming into focus, but I HAVE to go before then, maybe a couple of times. I can just feel myself on the board, feet snug in my boots, board grabbing the slopes, carving Ss on the mountain side, with the wind in my face, gliding. Exhilarating! I almost feel like I could try some jumps this year, but we'll see. Once I get on the slopes that may change.
Sometimes I get the same feeling when I'm speeding in my Civic on the highway. After a long day of work, getting into my car, driving fast, driving around slower cars, just me and the road. Fluid is the word that comes to mind. Of course, E and I switched cars so I haven't had that experience in a while. His car is a lot more powerful, and I just don't feel like I can control it like the Civic.
(The following is random diarrhea of the head.)
I've been baking a bit more lately, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE baking. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but I just feel good when I'm doing it. I think it just brings a sense of "home," like mom making apples pies and filling our home with the aroma of fresh baked apples. My mom never made apple pies, but only cooked from scratch as far as I can remember, from Korean food to apple sauce, what she made was from scratch. I know my mom is a big influence on my desire to cook as much as I can from scratch, not to mention that it's usually healthier for you (no preservatives; you get to choose the best ingredients), and it tastes better. I think only mom's have that touch that can make your home feel "homey." That's vague, and I can't exactly describe the feeling behind that. Anyway, that's why I think the home is a woman's domain. Men just don't have that same touch. So, Men, don't get in the way of your wife and her interior decorating desires. At least to me, and I imagine for a lot of other women, it's very important to be able to make a home, not just live there and not just have a functional living space, but to make it a home.
I've decided that the first step to bringing hominess to our living room is to get the end tables that match our coffee table and then getting lamps (2 table lamps and a floor lamp?). I've started saving up. Then we need a mirror for the dining room and a new something where the tv is. No vision for that yet - maybe some kind of shelving. Maybe we'll get some B+W prints by my new fave photographer Michael Kenna. I think what he does with his photos is the same kind of thing I'd eventually like to do, but I've got lots and lots to learn. This will probably take a couple of years to all come together. sigh. Can't wait.
In the meantime...let's hit the slopes! =D
